227 - The Weathermen here Stink!

Friday night, it was supposed to rain, and it did.
Saturday, it was supposed to rain in the afternoon. I had to work at our auto club's cruise night, and because of the forecast, I kept my Corvette home. After starting to work, doing the DJ duties for the evening (and trying something new, I bought a 1/8th to 1/4" adapter for the sound cable to get to my notebook PC, and played all the music from my notebook PC, and it worked fantastic! Everyone had a great time... except it was GORGEOUS outside. Bright sunshine, fluffy white clouds... and my Corvette was home.

Sunday, we were putting on a car show for a local convalescent home in my town, and when I went to see my mom this morning, the clouds were threatening and the forecast called for rain in the afternoon.
Again, I took my truck to the show, got set up (I was doing DJ there too), and waited for the awful weather. The clouds broke, the sun came out, and it was GORGEOUS!

Two evenings of sunshine, and my Vette stayed in my garage. All because I don't want to get rain on it. (yeah, silly I know)

I got home from the show Sunday afternoon, and immediately took my Vette out.

Other than that, I went to see a friend on Saturday morning from the place I used to work, as he had some computer problems. I've got a lot of work ahead of me with some of his computer problems, but I'm working on them.

On to a funny for today:

The top 10 George Carlin Quotes:

  1. “Something is wrong here: War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed. Results like these do not belong on the resume of a supreme being. This is the kinda (expletive) you’d expect from an office temp with abad attitude.”
  2. “I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older; then it dawned on me – they’re cramming for their final exam.”
  3. “Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?”
  4. “Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?”
  5. “I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, “Where’s the self-help section?” She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.”
  6. “Why do they lock gas station bathrooms? Are they afraid someone will clean them?”
  7. “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” (my personal favorite)
  8. “How come when it’s us it’s ‘an abortion,’ but when it’s a chicken it’s an omelet?”
  9. “The best thing about getting old is you’re not responsible for remembering things anymore. Even important things. ‘But it was your daughter’s funeral.’ ‘I forgot!’ You can even make believe you have Alzheimer’s disease. It’s a lot of fun. You can look around the dining room table and say, ‘Who are you people and where is my horse?’
  10. “Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man… living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you and he needs money.”

Have a great Monday!

226 - Guess what the weather's like....

Yep. It rained this morning, but by 5pm, the sun was out. It'll be clear skies till tomorrow, when we get back to rain again, at least through next Thursday. I was supposed to go to a cruise night tomorrow with some friends, but it looks like that'll be canceled as well as our club's cruise night on Saturday night.

How about the deaths this week. Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. All three, amazing.

The odd thing is, on Twitter I follow a guy who's a psychic from the TV show Paranormal State, and he tweeted early this afternoon "Wow, first Ed then Farrah, these things run in 3's, I wonder who's next".

Speaking of Twitter, I got in on a small contest by one of the Dell guys on Twitter, and won. I won the most gorgeous picnic basket. Here's a picture of it.
Here's some detailed information on what's inside. Secretly I've always wanted a nice picnic basket... and now I have one! We're going on a picnic in a few weeks so we'll use it then.

Other than that, my fish is doing well. I did however, change his name. Seeing as my daughter named hers after a character in one of her favorite movies, I've done the same. I've named him "Inigo" after Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride (Inigo being so close to Indigo) Here's a picture of Mandy Patinkin as Inigo.

Well, that's it for today... here's something funny for you:

Coffee Addiction (this one's  for you Mark!)

You know you are addicted to coffee if
-You grind your coffee beans in your mouth.
-You sleep with your eyes open.
-You have to watch videos in fast-forward.
-The only time you're standing still is during an earthquake.
-You can take a picture of yourself from ten feet away without using the timer.
-You've worn out your third pair of tennis shoes this week.
-Your eyes stay open when you sneeze.
-You chew on other people's fingernails.
-The nurse needs a scientific calculator to take your pulse.
-You're so jittery that people use your hands to blend their margaritas.
-You can type sixty words per minute with your feet.
-You can jump-start your car without cables.
-You don't sweat, you percolate.
-You walk twenty miles on your treadmill before you realize it's not plugged in.
-You forget to unwrap candy bars before eating them.
-You've built a miniature city out of little plastic stirrers.
-People get dizzy just watching you.
-Instant coffee takes too long.
-You channel surf faster without a remote.
-You have a picture of your coffee mug on your coffee mug.
-You can outlast the Energizer bunny.
-You short out motion detectors.
-You don't even wait for the water to boil anymore.
-Your nervous twitch registers on the Richter scale.
-You help your dog chase its tail.
-You soak your dentures in coffee overnight.
-Your first-aid kit contains two pints of coffee with an I.V. hookup.
-You ski uphill.
-You get a speeding ticket even when you're parked.
-You answer the door before people knock.
-You haven't blinked since the last lunar eclipse.

Have a wonderful weekend all!

224 - Still Raining, and Fathers Day

Yep, it's still raining, and the forecast is for.... rain. Until Thursday at least. *frown*

Happy Fathers Day to all you dad's out there, like my friend Mark, whose son we've all watched since he wasn't even walking yet (it seems), to Bubba, who loves his kids so much, I think he just took them to Hawaii! (but did he bring them back?), to Curt. Curt, who is not a biological dad, but who's a dad of another kind. He teaches kids at his church. He shares his love of music, of art, and of his very special gentleness. If you knew him like I do, you'd be in awe of his music, art and what a gentle soul he is. To Peter, who spares nothing to take care of his children. Listening to how he takes care of Vicki, is a testament to what kind of a man he is. I could name more dads, but they're all special in their own right.

Me, I just try to do well by my kids. For Fathers Day today, my daughter took me to get my own Betta fish (or is it Beta?). She and my son split it, but he had to work so my daughter, wife and I went out today in search of my special one. Here's what I got after going to 4 stores:

hansel

I've named him "Hansel", because if my daughter has Derek (Zoolander), mine must be his arch-nemesis/friend Hansel! If you've never seen the movie Zoolander, oh please find it and watch it. It's truly hilarious.

We got him home, and he immediately took to his new home. it's a one gallon glass bowl with a small oriental looking building with a hole he can slip through if he wants. So far, he's doing quite well, and I think it was a great gift idea from my son and daughter! (click on the picture to 'embiggen')

Other than that, it's been a pretty quiet weekend, so on to something funny:

0 to 200 in 6 seconds

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was
really pissed.
She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the
driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!"
The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke
up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box
gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.
Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought
the box back in the house.
She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.
Bob has been missing since Friday.

Impossible to Please

A group of girlfriends is on vacation when they see a 5-story hotel with a sign that reads: "For Women Only." Since they are without their boyfriends and husbands, they decide to go in.
The bouncer, a very attractive guy, explains to them how it works. "We have 5 floors. Go up floor by floor, and once you find what you are looking for, you can stay there. It's easy to decide since each floor has a sign telling you what's inside."
So they start going up and on the first floor the sign reads: "All the men on this floor are short and plain." The friends laugh and without hesitation move on to the next floor.
The sign on the second floor reads: "All the men here are short and handsome." Still, this isn't good enough, so the friends continue on up.
They reach the third floor and the sign reads: "All the men here are tall and plain."
They still want to do better, and so, knowing there are still two floors left, they continued on up.
On the fourth floor, the sign is perfect: "All the men here are tall and handsome." The women get all excited and are going in when they realize that there is still one floor left. Wondering what they are missing, they head on up to the fifth floor.
There they find a sign that reads: "There are no men here. This floor was built only to prove that there is no way to please a woman."

Have a great Monday all...!

233 - Where Has the Sun Gone?

In the last 30 days, we've had around 24 days of rain. Seriously, I'm ready to build an ark! Animals are marching past my window in pairs. How big IS a cubit again?

Hey Curt, do you still read here? Bubba?

Mike H, are we doing Abbott's soon? Lobster is at an all time low price lately I hear.

I'm back down to one commenter again.. wondering if it's my content, or people just busy this time of year.

Did I mention it's raining. Again.

This weekend I'm supposed to go to a picnic, but that'll be rained out. Not sure what I'll be doing other than helping my son write a resume (his first).

Time for a few funnies:

An elderly man in Phoenix calls his son in New York and says, "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.

"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.

"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the old man says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her," and he hangs up.

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this."

She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at the old man, "You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife.

"Okay," he says, "They're coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own fares ...

Now what do we tell them for Christmas?

If I Ever Become an Evil Overlord:

  1. My legions of terror will have helmets with clear plexiglass visors, not face-concealing ones.
  2. My ventilation ducts will be too small to crawl through.
  3. My noble half-brother whose throne I usurped will be killed, not kept anonymously imprisoned in a forgotten cell of my dungeon.
  4. Shooting is not too good for my enemies.
  5. The artifact which is the source of my power will not be kept on the Mountain of Despair beyond the River of Fire guarded by the Dragons of Eternity. It will be in my safe-deposit box.
  6. I will not gloat over my enemies' predicament before killing them.
  7. When the rebel leader challenges me to fight one-on-one and asks, "Or are you afraid without your armies to back you up?" My reply will be, "No, just sensible."
  8. When I've captured my adversary and he says, "Look, before you kill me, will you at least tell me what this is all about?" I'll shoot him, and then say "No".
  9. After I kidnap the beautiful princess, we will be married immediately in a quiet civil ceremony, not a lavish spectacle in three weeks time during which the final phase of my plan will be carried out.
  10. I will not include a self-destruct mechanism unless absolutely necessary. If it is necessary, it will not be a large red button labelled "Danger: Do Not Push".
  11. I will not order my trusted lieutenant to kill the infant who is destined to overthrow me -- I'll do it myself.
  12. I will not interrogate my enemies in the inner sanctum -- a small hotel well outside my borders will work just as well.
  13. I will be secure in my superiority. Therefore, I will feel no need to prove it by leaving clues in the form of riddles or leaving my weaker enemies alive to show they pose no threat.
  14. I will not waste time making my enemy's death look like an accident: I'm not accountable to anyone and my other enemies wouldn't believe it.
  15. I will make it clear that I do know the meaning of the word "mercy"; I simply choose not show them any.
  16. One of my advisors will be an average five-year-old child. Any flaws in my plan that he is able to spot will be corrected before implementation.
  17. All slain enemies will be cremated, not left for dead at the bottom of the cliff. The announcement of their deaths, as well as any accompanying celebration, will be deferred until after the aforementioned disposal.
  18. My undercover agents will not have tattoos identifying them as members of my organization, nor will they be required to wear military boots or adhere to any other dress codes.
  19. The hero is not entitled to a last kiss, a last cigarette, or any other form of last request.
  20. I will never employ any device with a digital countdown. If I find that such a device is absolutely unavoidable, I will set it to activate when the counter reaches 117 and the hero is just putting his plan into operation.
  21. I will design all doomsday machines myself. If I must hire a mad scientist to assist me, I will make sure that he is sufficiently twisted to never regret his evil ways and seek to undo the damage he's caused.
  22. I will never utter the sentence "But before I kill you, there's just one thing I want to know."
  23. When I employ people as advisors, I will occasionally listen to their advice.

Have a great weekend!

231 - Great Weekend!

Well, it was a great weekend.. beginning with my friends coming over from work for some steaks and Tequila! We had a wonderful time.. nobody drank too much, and we had a lot of great food and laughs.

Saturday morning, I picked my my daughter, and went to get my tires rotated, and while that was done I took her to breakfast next door, then we did a few things and then she, my wife and I all went to Costco (like a Sam's club) to get some provisions.

Did I mention, my daughter got a new pet? (I'm semi-sorta a grandfather I guess! *LOL*)

beta

Click on the picture at right to 'embiggen'. The fish is a Beta, or another name for it is a Siamese Fighting Fish. The males are the brightly colored, long fin/tale ones like she has. If you were to put 2 of them in the tank together (two males), they would fight to the death almost immediately.

They're beautiful fish, very easy to care for, and pretty inexpensive.

When I went with her to get him, she wanted to name him. We tossed out name after name, until I finally said "hey, he's really, really, really, really incredibly blue... let's name him Derek (after Derek Zoolander)"! She loved it, and Derek is his name. Now I want to get one, and call him Hansel (again, from Zoolander).

Sunday, we went to see my mom as usual.. she's doing well and I have to take some time off work this week to take her to the UCONN Health Center (where I work) to see a new doctor.

Well, that's it for now.... here's your funny of the day:

He said to me . . . I don't know why you wear a bra; you've got nothing to put in it.

I said to him . . . You wear pants don't you?

He said to me . . . Shall we try swapping positions tonight?

I said to him . . . That's a good idea - you stand by the ironing board while I sit on the sofa and fart!

He said to me . . . What have you been doing with all the grocery money I gave you?

I said to him . . . Turn sideways and look in the mirror!

He said to me . . . Why don't women blink during foreplay?

I said to him . . . They don't have time!

I said to him . . . What do you call a woman who knows where her husband is every night?

He said to me . . . A widow.

He said to me . . . Why are married women heavier than single women?

I said to him . . . Single women come home, see what's in the fridge and go to bed. Married women come home, see what's in bed and go to the fridge.

Have a great Monday!

230 - Caution! Weekend Ahead!

Well, the weekend is just about upon us, and Friday night I have a couple of friends coming over from work for steaks on the grill and some beer (and maybe some good Tequila!) It should be a great time as we always have fun when we get together.

Saturday, I have some errands to run, and if the weather is nice, the car club's cruise night.

Has anyone used Microsoft's new search engine yet, Bing? It's got a beautiful picture every day on it with great info about the picture. I go there every day at least to see the picture of the day.

Mark, this one's for you. Here's what you get when you cross Star Wars, and Magnum P.I. !

Also, on Mark's blog Thursday, he asked if people liked artificial or real Maple Syrup. Hey, I'm from NEW ENGLAND!!!! I went to school with a guy who opened a sugar house, and now, it's absolutely beautiful! Check it out here.

Well, on to something funny:

TWO OLD MEN DECIDE THEY ARE CLOSE TO THEIR LAST DAYS AND DECIDE TO HAVE A LAST NIGHT ON THE TOWN.  AFTER A FEW DRINKS, THEY END UP AT THE LOCAL BROTHEL.
THE MADAM TAKES ONE LOOK AT THE TWO OLD GEEZERS  AND WHISPERS TO HER MANAGER, 'GO UP TO THE FIRST TWO BEDROOMS AND PUT AN INFLATED DOLL IN EACH BED. THESE TWO ARE SO OLD AND DRUNK, I'M NOT WASTING TWO OF MY GIRLS ON THEM. THEY WON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.'
THE MANAGER DOES AS HE IS TOLD AND THE TWO OLD MEN GO UPSTAIRS AND TAKE CARE OF THEIR BUSINESS.  AS THEY ARE WALKING HOME THE FIRST MAN SAYS, 'YOU KNOW, I THINK MY GIRL WAS DEAD!'
'DEAD?' SAYS HIS FRIEND, 'WHY DO YOU SAY THAT?'
'WELL, SHE NEVER MOVED OR MADE A SOUND ALL THE TIME I WAS LOVING HER.'
HIS FRIEND SAYS, 'COULD BE WORSE I THINK MINE WAS A WITCH.'
'A WITCH ??. WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU SAY THAT?'
'WELL, I WAS MAKING LOVE TO HER, KISSING HER ON THE NECK, AND I GAVE HER A LITTLE BITE, THEN SHE FARTED AND FLEW OUT THE WINDOW.... TOOK MY TEETH WITH HER!'

Have a wonderful weekend all...!

229 - Twits

Twitter is such a cool new toy. 140 character bites (bytes?) of people's lives displayed multiple times a day. I don't see Mark there much anymore (not sure why), but Elaine is there, the shmoops is there, Caroldee.. and a few others as well as quite a few other people I follow.  In all the time I've been on twitter I've seen some hilarious posts.

For example:

RyanSeacrest u guys seen this? US census issued a map of the cities with the most single men and women. Summer trip east for me. http://bit.ly/9w40U
(Me, if he needs to come East to find a girl, he has a much bigger problem than he thinks)

RebeccaLobo Coaches use dry-erase boards to draw plays in huddles. Seattle coach Brian Agler has the smallest board I've ever seen. Something Freudian?
(Rebecca Lobo is a former UCONN Basketball Player, multi national champ and player of the year who now works for ESPN)

LionelatDell Now it's time for our weekly routine... family night at Chick Fil-A. Woo hoo!
(I'm jealous. We have no Chick-Fil-A here)

BrentSpiner Watched a little of "I'm A Celebrity, Get Me A Job!". Scarier than "The Exorcist". Celebrity is really such a broad term, isn't it?
(He played Data on Star Trek The Next Generation)

RebeccaLobo http://twitpic.com/6zixg - Ironing board in my hotel room clearly not made for someone 6'4". Same said 4 mirror
(click on the link, it's hilarious)

CruiseLog Just posted some new photos of the "tethered blimp" ride Royal Caribbean is testing for its next ship. Quite a sight!http://bit.ly/23czV
(Elaine, you'll love these pictures)

I hope everyone has a wonderful Hump-Day...!

228 - How was your weekend?

It was a beautiful weekend here, Saturday and Sunday at least. I did some lawn mowing, then took the Vette out for a bit on Saturday, then we had a wine tasting with our club on Saturday night which was great. (I have to do some work on my wine blog for sure!) There were lots of great wines and food for all (18 people showed up), and everyone had a great time!

Sunday, I took the Vette out again in the morning, did some waxing on it for a bit, then in the afternoon the wife and I went with some friends to get some ice cream in the next town. A nice, relaxing weekend.

Other than that, it's been a very uneventful weekend.

One of my favorite shows on TV is starting again tonight. Does anyone else watch Burn Notice?

Oh well, on to something funny...

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church.

It was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it.

The seven-year-old had been staring at th e plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the boy, and said quietly, "Good morning, Alex."

"Good morning," replied the young man, still focused on the plaque.

"What is this?" Alex asked.

"Well, son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service."

Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque.

Little Alex's voice was trembling and barely audible when he asked, "Which service, the 9:45 or the 11:15?"

An old man shopping at a department store for a gift for his wife was intent on watching a teenage girl who was going through the sale racks. The teenage girl had a Mohawk dyed in various colors: pink, purple, green, and yellow. The old man kept staring at her.

Irritated by his staring the teenage girl finally broke down and sneered, "What's the matter, old dude? I bet you haven't tried anything wild in your whole life, have you?"

The old man did not miss a beat when he replied, "I was drunk one time and was with a Macaw. I was just curious if you were related!"

Have a great Monday...!

227 - All the Pictures...

Ok, so I got bold (and with some prodding from Elaine) I uploaded all the pictures to Photobucket. I really don't like how they come out there (can't make them bigger), but here they are:

Photobucket pictures. Guest password is freedom

After you put in the password, you'll get to the slideshow. Let me know if you have any questions.

Well, since getting back, I bought a new (read: expensive) watch that I've always wanted, and a new pair of Revo sunglasses (also expensive). Funny thing is, the watch was cheaper online than in the Caribbean, and the sunglasses are not made any longer, but I found someone on Ebay that had a few pairs for sale. I already had 2 pairs of them, but one pair somehow have a crack in them which bummed me out and the company does not make these lenses any longer. They look like this, with a bluish tint on front.

Well, not long to type tonight, so I'll wish you all a wonderful weekend!

ps, let me know what you think of the pictures!

226 - Pictures of Paradise

Well, as I promised, here are some pictures from my trip.

Click on any picture to 'embiggen'

h2ozone

To the left, is the H2O Zone, the water park for kids! It's pretty amazing to say the least.

promenade To the left, is the Royal Promenade in the center of the ship. Note that I'm already halfway down the promenade taking this picture! There's about a dozen stores, an English Pub, a Wine Bar, a Ben & Jerrys.. all kinds of great things!

flower

To the left, is a flower from our dinner table. The food was incredible.

flowrider

The absolute coolest thing on the ship, was The FlowRider, located on the 13th floor at the back of the ship. I watched this for quite some time (no, I didn't try it) but it looked like it was a lot of fun.

That's it for now, more to come.. but I'll leave you with a funny: (and no, I'm NOT anti-gay.. it's a joke!)

MAN TEST

1. If you are over forty, and you have a washboard stomach, you are a queer. It means you haven't sucked back enough beer with the boys and have spent the rest of your free time doing sit-ups, aerobics, and doing the Oprah diet...Fag.

2. If you have a cat, you are a FLAMING homo. A cat is like a dog, only gay -- it grooms itself constantly but never scratches itself, has a delicate touch except when it uses its claws, and whines to be fed. And just think about how you call a dog... 'Killer, come here! I said get your  ass over here, Killer!' Now think about how you call a cat...'Bun-bun, come to daddy, snookums!' Jeeezus, I just threw up in my mouth a little bit, you're so queer.

3. If you suck on lollipops, Ring-Pops, baby pacifiers, or any such nonsense, rest assured, you are a Gaylord. A straight man only sucks on BBQ ribs, crab claws, raw oysters, lobster backs, pickled pigs feet, or tits. Anything else and you are a Homo in training and undeniably a fag.

4. If you refuse to take a dump in a public bathroom or piss in a parking lot, you crave a deep homosexual relationship. A man's world is his toilet; he defecates and urinates where he pleases.

5. If you drink anything other than regular coffee, you're gay. A straight man will never be heard ordering a 'Decaf Soy Latte'. If you've put a Decaf Soy Latte to your lips, you've had a Johnson there too.

6. If you know more than six names of non-standard colors or four different types of dessert other than ice cream, you might as well be handing out free passes to your ass. A real man doesn't have memory space in his brain to remember all of that crap. If you can pick out chartreuse or you know what a 'fressier' is; you're gay. And if you can name ANY type of textile other than cotton or denim, you are an ass-pirate.

7. If you drive with both hands on the wheel, forget it, you're dying to tune a meat whistle. A man only puts both hands on the wheel to beep at a slow driver or to cut the prick off. The rest of the time he needs that hand to change the radio station, eat a hamburger, or hold his beer.

8. If you do not send this off to all the males on your email list because you are afraid of hurting their feelings then you are definitely on the verge on being a pole smoker.

So remember the rules, or keep that gay stuff to yourself.

Have a great Hump-Day!

225 - I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaack!

Sorry I don't have a lot of time tonight, we got in at about 6pm, had a WONDERFUL cruise, but with all the clothes washing, hundreds of emails.. etc, I'm just bushed.

But... I did promise Merle this picture of nutmeg I saw in Grenada. I hope you enjoy Merle! *S*

More on Wednesday, including pictures... but for now, I'll be heading off to bed soon.

All the best for a wonderful Monday....
