297 – As 2009 Comes to a Close….

Looking back, it’s been a good year. My wife and I are still working, everyone in our family is relatively healthy, and things are pretty stable.

For 2010, I’m hoping for more of the same, not just for me, but for all of my friends.

It’s been a quiet week, and I guess I’m feeling a bit reflective upon 2009.

2009 found us losing many famous people/celebrities like:

Michael Jackson
Farrah Fawcett (a dream girl for most men)
Ed McMahon (Johnny Carson’s eternal sidekick)
Billy Mays (Pitchman extraordinaire)
David Carradine (Kung-Fu)
Dom DeLuise (One of my all time favorite funny people)
Bea Arthur (the Golden Girl)
Natasha Richardson
Karl Malden (seems to have always played a cop)
Oscar Mayer (yes, him)
Eunice Shriver
Walter Cronkite (and that’s the way it was…)
Les Paul (inventor of the Electric Guitar)
Ted Kennedy
Patrick Swayze (Loved him in Road House)
Henry Gibson (remember him from Laugh-In or Boston Legal?)
James Whitmore (Great actor)
Gene Barry
Gale Storm
John Updike
John Hughes
Captain Lou Albano (loved him in the wrestling days)
Mary Travers (from Peter, Paul and Mary)
Pat Hingle
Ricardo Montalban (Mister Rourke)
Soupy Sales
Patrick McGoohan (The original Prisoner)
Paul Harvey (Good Day!)

Lets hope we lose much less in 2010.

Happy New Years my friends….. I wish you all prosperity, health and happiness.

296 – The Week After

The week after Christmas is always a bit of a let-down, only because you’re going 100 miles per hour the week before, readying the house for visitors, for Christmas dinner, wrapping presents.. etc. Now, all that’s done, and it’s a pretty abrupt halt.

My/our Christmas was very nice except for my daughter coming down with a very nasty cold. Poor thing, she’s really feeling under the weather.

I got plenty of great things for Christmas.. including a UCONN Husky hoodie from my friend Dave, some stuff for my Corvette and a real nice UCONN Husky Basketball denim shirt from my son and daughter, some clothes and a nice bamboo cutting board from my wife.. everything I had asked for! *S*

Christmas Eve, we went to my mom’s house and had food and munchies, opened a few things there and had a great time. Christmas Day, everyone came to my house, there were eleven of us and had a great meal. All in all, a wonderful long weekend.

And now, some quotes:

The real voyage of discovery consists of not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.
Marcel Proust

The question is not what you look at, but what you see.
Henry David Thoreau

For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.

295 – Merry Christmas

merry_christmas

It’s my sincere wish that all who read here, and their families have a very Merry Christmas, safe and secure with lots of smiles and happiness.

All our shopping is done, our tree is just right, the presents are wrapped.

Tomorrow night (Christmas Eve), we go to my moms for food and opening presents with her, then on Christmas Day, the whole family comes to our home for a wonderful dinner.

My advice to you all, take lots of pictures of the family gatherings…. we never know when we’ll be down one person next  year.

All the best wishes to my friends here.

294 – The Blizzard that Wasn’t (at least not here)

Well, we were due for a major snowstorm Saturday overnight into Sunday, and projections were anywhere from 10-18 inches of the white stuff. It was supposed to be the heavy, hard to shovel stuff and it had already hit West Virginia and dumped so much snow there that the National Guard had to be called out.

Everyone here was getting ready to hunker down to a huge storm, with all the food stores being packed with people believing they wouldn’t be able to get bread or milk for months. Gas stations were busy too with everyone topping off their tanks for the extra weight. Sanding trucks were out pre-treating the roads as the weatherman shouted word of gloom and doom in the form of snow.

I got to bed early as I was going to take my son to work at 7am Sunday.

I awoke Sunday morning, looked out the front window and blinked. There was barely 3 inches of snow, maybe 4, and it was the light, fluffy kind that was blowing around a bit. Taking my son to work was a non-event, with the roads being cleared already. The snow stopped completely before 7:30am, and I wondered once again where the weather people went wrong.

On the other side, a town about 20 miles from me, got upwards of 23 inches of snow! How most of our state missed it, is a mystery to me!

Today’s my daughter’s 28th birthday… *S* Happy Birthday Sweetheart! ~hugs and kisses~

I want to take a moment to wish my friend michelle a Happy Birthday tomorrow! *S* I hope you have a wonderful day dear friend…. ~hugs~

Now, on to something funny:

Three young women are at a cocktail party.

The conversation turns to their position in life, and it's clear that they're trying to one-up each other.

The first one says, "My husband is taking me to the French Riviera for two weeks on vacation," and then looks at the others with a superior demeanor.

The second one says, "Well, my husband just bought me a new Mercedes," and looks about with considerable pride. Young woman number three says, "Well, to be perfectly honest with you, we don't have much money and we don't have many material possessions. However, one thing I can tell you about my husband is that fourteen canaries can stand shoulder to shoulder on his erect thing."

After this, the first one looks shamefaced and says, "Girls, I've got a confession to make: I was just trying to impress you. You know that vacation I was telling you about? Well, it's not to the French Riviera, it's to my folks' house in Terre Haute for two weeks."

The second one says, "Your honesty has shamed me. It's not a Mercedes; it's a Plymouth."

"Well, I've got a confession to make myself: Canary number fourteen has to stand on one leg."

Have a wonderful Monday all…!

293 – Winter HAS Arrived!

The weather has been pretty mild here lately, getting up into the low 50’s earlier this week. Slowly, since then it’s gotten a LOT colder! This morning, it was 11 degrees out with a wind-chill of 2 degrees! Damn it’s cold out! We’re due for some snow this weekend, but the forecasters have no clue how much. All they say is it could be a big one.

Tonight, I’m going out with my friend Dave for dinner, and maybe a movie. It’ll be nice to get together before the holidays, as we haven’t gone out in a while now.

This weekend, I start wrapping gifts. I actually enjoy it though some people find it a chore. Many people now use gift bags instead.. and I wonder where that ever came from.

Now for something interesting:

If you’re like me, you love beautiful pictures. I go to bing.com every day to see the wonderful photos there. Well, here are some Archived Bing Pictures.

And now, some funny quotes:

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

291 – 10 Shopping Days till Christmas!

Thank goodness, my shopping’s done.

My daughter and I are making a special holiday treat for co-workers and friends, but that’s more fun than anything.

The weekend was a busy one as always.. we went out to dinner with some friends from our wine group on Saturday night and had a great Italian meal. The conversation was wonderful, and we came home full and relaxed.

Well, I see Tiger Woods is finally losing some endorsements. Well, I have a hard time feeling sorry for him when the amount of women he’s had an affair with has reached 10!

My wife and I also went out on Saturday to buy 2 new patio doors for the back of our house. They’re VERY expensive as one of them is 9 feet wide, but, we have to do it as we have problems with them and our builder told us we should replace them soon. So.. in a week or two, out go the old and in with the new I guess!

Now, for something funny, care of Tiger Woods:

It is near the Christmas break of the school year. The students have turned in all their work and there is really nothing more to do. All the children are restless and the teacher decides to have an early dismissal.

Teacher: "Whoever answers the questions I ask, first and correctly can leave early today."

Little Johnny says to himself "Good, I want to get outta here. I'm smart and will answer the question."

Teacher: "Who said 'Four Score and Seven Years Ago'?"
Before Johnny can open his mouth, Susie says, "Abraham Lincoln."
Teacher: "That's right Susie, you can go home."

Johnny is mad that Susie answered the question first.
Teacher: "Who said 'I Have a Dream'?"
Before Johnny can open his mouth, Mary says, "Martin Luther King."
Teacher: "That's right Mary, you can go."

Johnny is even madder than before.
Teacher: "Who said 'Ask not, what your country can do for you'?"
Before Johnny can open his mouth, Nancy says, "John F. Kennedy."
Teacher: "That's right Nancy, you may also leave."

Johnny is boiling mad that he has not been able to answer to any of the questions.
When the teacher turns her back Johnny says, "I wish these bitches would keep their mouths shut!"

The teacher turns around: "NOW WHO SAID THAT?"
Johnny: "TIGER WOODS. CAN I GO NOW?"

Have a wonderful Monday all!

290 – Christmas Shopping DONE!

Yep, I ordered something online for my wife last night completing my Christmas shopping! WHOO HOO! Now I can watch everyone else run around for that last minute present while I relax. Life is good.

We even bought a new, pre-lit huge Christmas tree. All my wife could say was “holy cow, that’s huge… but it’s full”. In the next couple of days, we’ll trim it with ornaments and it’ll look great I’m sure.

We’re going out to dinner tomorrow night with some friends from our wine club, to an Italian restaurant we’ve never been to. Should be nice and relaxing.

What’s everyone got planned for the weekend? (other than shopping!)

Oh, and Happy Hanukkah to my friends of the Jewish faith!

Here’s something you all should like (especially Mark) The Year's Most Amazing Scientific Images

And now, something to make you smile:

Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed a wife with which to share his fortune. One evening at an investment meeting he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away. 'I may look like just an ordinary man,' he said to her, but in just a few years, my father will die, and I'll inherit $65 million.' Impressed, the woman obtained his business card. Three days later, she became his stepmother. Women are so much better at financial planning than men.

And one more:

A lawyer and two friends, a Rabbi and a Hindu holy man, had car trouble in the countryside and asked to spend the night with a farmer.

The farmer said, "There might be a problem. You see, I only have room for two to sleep, one of you must sleep in the barn."

"No problem," spoke the Rabbi. "My people wandered in the desert for forty years. I am humble enough to sleep in the barn for an evening." With that he departed to the barn and the others bedded down for the night.

Moments later a knock was heard at the door. The farmer opened the door, and there stood the Rabbi from the barn. "What's wrong?" asked the farmer.

He replied, "I am grateful to you, but I can't sleep in the barn. There is a pig in the barn and my faith believes that is an unclean animal."

His Hindu friend agreed to swap places with him. But a few minutes late the same scene occurs. There is a knock on the door. "What's wrong, now?" the farmer asked.

The Hindu holy man replies, "I too am grateful for your helping us out, but there is a cow in the barn and in my country cows are considered sacred. I can't sleep on holy ground!"

Well, that leaves only the lawyer to make the change. He grumbled and complained, but went out to the barn. Moments later there was another knock on the farmer's door. Frustrated and tired, the farmer opened the door, and there stood the pig and the cow.

Have a wonderful weekend all!

288 – 17 Shopping Days till Christmas!

Well, I did a bit more shopping this weekend. Got some stuff for my mom, and my daughter and I searched for a new (artificial) Christmas tree. No matter what we find, my wife doesn’t like it. Did I mention, she’s a real scrooge? *chuckling* I’m getting to the point where she’s going to get one herself, because I’m tired of being turned down (as is my daughter). Maybe I’ll get my son to go with her! *L*

It was a real busy weekend.. almost a relief to go to work! *chuckling* How was everyone else's weekend?

If you haven’t gone there yet, check out the Bing picture of the day today.

Lest we forget what day this is.. the one that lives in infamy.

I’m thinking of getting one of those Keurig coffee makers. Anyone have any experience with them?

Well, on with something funny:

A man walks into a friend and sees that his friend's car is total loss and covered with leaves, grass, branches,
dirt and blood.
He asks his friend, "What's happened to your car?"
"Well," the friend responses, "I ran into a lawyer".
"OK," says the man, "that explains the blood... But what about the leaves, the grass, the branches and the dirt?"
"Well, I had to chase him all through the park."

And another

A concerned husband went to a doctor to talk about his wife.

He says to the doctor, "Doctor, I think my wife is deaf because she never hears me the first time and always asks me to repeat things."
"Well," the doctor replied, "go home and tonight stand about 15 feet from her and say something to her. If she doesn't reply move about 5 feet closer and say it again. Keep doing this so that we'll get an idea about the severity of her deafness".

Sure enough, the husband goes home and does exactly as instructed.

He starts off about 15 feet from his wife in the kitchen as she is chopping some vegetables and says, "Honey, what's for dinner?" He hears no response.

He moves about 5 feet closer and asks again. No reply. He moves 5 feet closer. Still no reply. He gets fed up and moves right behind her, about an inch away, and asks again, "Honey, what's for dinner?"

She replies, "For the fourth time, vegetable stew!"

Have a wonderful Monday all…!

287 – 21 Days Till Christmas

Well, the weather finally turned a bit cooler here after a 67 degree Tuesday morning. We may even get a bit of snow on Saturday!

It should be a busy weekend as I have stuff going on tonight, Saturday day and at night, and part of Sunday.

One of my co-workers brought in one of these to put on his desk yesterday. It’s called the “Frog-O-Sphere”, and it’s so cool! They sell them mostly at Brookstone stores, but I guess they’re in other places too now. Of course, PETA is all up in arms about them, but for sure these two aren’t being mistreated! *chuckling* They’re stars in work.

So.. what’s everyone think now of Tiger Woods? The idiot couldn’t keep it in his pants and now he’s mad that the tabloids found out about his indiscretions! So many people used to look up to him, and now, he’s gone and ruined it on his own. What ARE these people thinking! And the women, they KNOW he’s married! Go figure.

Here's a group that believes ever song ever done has used one of four chords! It's hilarious..

Did anyone watch the TV show Ghost Hunters this week? They investigated The Mark Twain house here in Hartford! What a gorgeous house!

Well, not much else for today.. so I’ll say have a wonderful weekend!

286 – Cool Weather & Darwin

Well, the cooler weather has arrived. This morning on the way to work, it was down to about 24 degrees. Thankfully, we haven’t had any snow yet… but we know it’s coming.

This week is very busy with things going on after work on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and a holiday party on Saturday.

Not sure if I mentioned that my son has a full time job finally. It’s still at the supermarket that he’s worked at since he was 16, but he’s moving up into a managerial position with better money and longer hours. He bragged the first week (before the week started) that he’ll have 46 hours that week. I told him to come brag to me AFTER working those hours! *LOL*

It’s just good to see him finally making some money so he can pay his bills off (and the holidays are coming quick!)
