333 – Three Weeks from This Afternoon..

I’ll be on vacation! With a nice long weekend in between (this Friday-Sunday), it’ll go even quicker.

The weather this weekend is supposed to get up to around the 80’s, so I’ll be putting the insurance back on the Vette and getting it out for some play time.

We’ve got all kinds of flooding up here in CT from the heavy rains over the last 3 days (over six inches).

Some good news came out yesterday, as it was announced that AT&T will not continue it’s monopoly on the iPhone! Verizon will begin selling them late this fall.. and if I have my way, I’ll be switching providers from Sprint.

Was anyone else excited to see the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) finally split particles yesterday?  I’m not sure it’s worth $10 billion, but it’s exciting nonetheless.

And for the chocolate lovers among us, it’s now proven, chocolate is good for your heart!

On to something funny:

Who Says Men Don't Remember Anniversaries

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in their bed.
She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front him. He appears deep in thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of coffee.
"What's the matter, dear?" she whispers as she steps into the room. "Why are you down here at this time of night?"
The husband looks up, "Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating, and
you were only 17?" he asks solemnly.
The wife is touched thinking her husband is so caring and sensitive. "Yes, I do," she replies.
The husband pauses. The words are not coming easily. "Do you remember when
you father caught us in the back seat of my car?"
"Yes, I remember," says the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.
The husband continues..."Do you remember when he shoved a shotgun in my face and said, "Either you marry my daughter, or I will send you to jail for 20 years".
"I remember that too", she replies softly.
He wipes another tear from his cheek and says... "I would have gotten out today!"

Male assertiveness

A mild-mannered man was tired of being bossed around by his wife so he went to a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist said he needed to build his self-esteem, and so gave him a book on assertiveness, which he read on the way home.
He had finished the book by the time he reached his house.
The man stormed into the house and walked up to his wife.
Pointing a finger in her face, he said, "From now on, I want you to know that I am the man of this house, and my word is law! I want you to prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, and when I'm finished eating my meal, I expect a sumptuous dessert afterward. Then, after dinner, you're going to draw me my bath so I can relax. And when I'm finished with my bath, guess who's going to dress me and comb my hair?"
"The funeral director," said his wife.

Have a wonderful Hump-Day all!

332 – 23 Days to Vacation!

It’s coming quick, and with a short week this week, it’ll be even quicker!

I was talking to my daughter this weekend about the differences in dating now and when I was dating, so many years ago (don’t ask how many).
It seems “texting” is a normal part of the dating process, but I told her I’m a firm believer that I wouldn’t ever “text” if I were dating today. I find it cold and impersonal. If I want to talk to the other person, I’d call. I’d want to hear the other person’s voice. She disagreed.
I’m reminded of my absolute favorite commercial of all time, that left a lasting impression on me. It’s from United Airlines, please watch it and tell me what you think.

Our UCONN Women won again, their 75’th in a row! They honestly look unstoppable, and it would take a complete breakdown of the fabric of the universe for them to lose.

At left, I’ve added a new blog I read. My friend Derek from Switzerland, via Australia. He’s a good read… give him a try! (he’s also a singer and author!)

On to something funny (other than Derek):

For my buddy Bubba:

Southern Comments
Exclamations:

"Well knock me down and steal muh teeth!"
"Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit."

Threats:

"I'll slap you so hard, your clothes will be outtastyle."
"This'll jar your preserves."
"Don't you be makin' me open a can o' whoop-ass on ya!"

Good Things/Compliments:
"Cute as a sack full of puppies."
"If things get any better, I may have to hire someone to help me enjoy it."
"Gooder than grits."

The Weather:

"It's so dry, the trees are bribing the dogs."
"It's been hotter'n a goat's butt in a pepper patch."
Wintry roads are said to be "slicker than otter snot."

Descriptions:

A bothersome person is "like a booger that you can't thump off."
When something is bad then you say, "that ain't no count."

If something is hard to do, it's "like trying to herd cats."
"He ran like his feet was on fire and his ass was catchin."
A hectic schedule keeps you "Busier than a cat covering crap on a marble floor."

Insults:

"She's uglier than homemade soap."
"Your momma's so fat, when she stepped up on the scale to be weighed, it said 'To be continued.'"
"He fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down."
"Uglier than a lard bucket full of armpits."
"The wheels still turning, but the hamsters dead"
Any insulting statement is always followed by "bless his/her heart."
Example: "She's dumber than a door knob, bless her heart."

And for Bubba AND Mark…

Redneck Jedi

You know you're a redneck jedi when..
You hear "Luke, I am your father... and your uncle..."
You ever said the phrase, "May the force be with y'all."
Your Jedi robe is camouflage.
You have ever used your light saber to open a bottle of Bud Light.
At least one wing of your X-Wings is primer colored.
You can easily describe the taste of an Ewok.
You have ever had a land-speeder up on blocks in your yard.
The worst part of spending time on Dagobah is the dadgum skeeters.
Wookiees are offended by your B.O.
You have ever used the force to get yourself another beer so you didn't have to wait for a commercial.
You have ever used the force in conjunction with fishing or bowling.
You have ever had your R-2 unit use its self-defense electro-shock thingy to get the barbecue grill to light up.
You have a confederate flag painted on the hood of your land-speeder.
You ever fantasized about Princess Leia wearing Daisy Duke shorts.
You have the doors of your X-wing welded shut and you have to get in through the window.
Although you had to kill him, you kinda thought that Jabba the Hutt had a pretty good handle on how to treat his women.
You have a cousin who bears a strong resemblance to Chewbacca.
You suggested that they outfit the Millennium Falcon with redwood deck.
You were the only person drinking Jack Daniels during the cantina scene.
Your father has ever said to you, "Shoot, son come on over to the dark side...it'll be a hoot."

Have a wonderful Monday all…!

331 – Why is it…..

That we have people so gullible, or so incredibly stupid.. that  they can honestly, in their heart, feel like our President and our current government compares to Hitler and Nazism?
I mean, you can completely disagree with how our government is being run, dislike what our President is doing, and compare him to a dictator who killed over 10 million people?
Complete ignorance? Blind allegiance to a political party?

Back to the gullible part. I’ve had people send me email links to websites and youtube videos that talk about the new healthcare plan. One of them, a video, is so horribly wrong, it’s pathetic! It’s scare mongering. I’m amazed people do this.

If you’re using Windows 7, how would you like 5 free beautiful themes? They’re already on your PC too! Go here to see how to find them.

No big plans for the weekend… but it’s supposed to be VERY cold!

On to something funny:

A Really Bad Day

There was this guy at a bar, just looking at his drink. He stays like that for half of an hour.
Then, this big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down. The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't stand to see a man cry."
"No, it's not that. This day is the worst of my life. First, I fall asleep, and I go late to my office. My boss, outrageous, fires me. When I leave the building, to my car, I found out it was stolen. The police said that they can do nothing. I get a cab to return home, and when I leave it, I remember I left my wallet and credit cards there. The cab driver just drives away."
"I go home, and when I get there, I find my wife in bed with the gardener. I leave home, and come to this bar. And just when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison."

Generous lawyer

A local United Way office realized that the organization had never received a donation from the town's most successful lawyer. The person in charge of contributions called him to persuade him to contribute.
"Our research shows that out of a yearly income of at least $500,000, you give not a penny to charity. Wouldn't you like to give back to the community in some way?"
The lawyer mulled this over for a moment and replied, "First, did your research also show that my mother is dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that are several times her annual income?"
Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbled, "Um ... no."
The lawyer interrupts, "or that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair?"
The stricken United Way rep began to stammer out an apology, but was interrupted again.
"or that my sister's husband died in a traffic accident," the lawyer's voice rising in indignation, "leaving her penniless with three children?!"
The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, said simply, "I had no idea..."
On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again, "So if I don't give any money to them, why should I give any to you?"

Have a wonderful weekend!

330 – Wine Dinner Menu

This past Sunday, we had our wine club’s annual Wine Dinner, at a very fancy place with great food. In the past 2 years, the place we had gone to was, to put it bluntly, pretty awful. I had suggested this place we dined at this year, and everyone LOVED it!

The menu should show you what we’re used to, with the accompanying wines on the right.

BTW, the Entree is fish or beef, not both. I hope you can read it ok.

Other than that, not much else new… so I’ll get to something to make you smile:

Mistakes on a resume

These are from actual resumes:
"Personal: I'm married with 9 children. I don't require prescription drugs.
"I am extremely loyal to my present firm, so please don't let them know of my immediate availability."
"Qualifications: I am a man filled with passion and integrity, and I can act on short notice. I'm a class act and do not come cheap."
"I intentionally omitted my salary history. I've made money and lost money. I've been rich and I've been poor. I prefer being rich."
"Note: Please don't misconstrue my 14 jobs as 'job-hopping'. I have never quit a job."
"Number of dependents: 40."
"Marital Status: Often. Children: Various."
RESUME BLOOPERS
"Here are my qualifications for you to overlook."
REASONS FOR LEAVING THE LAST JOB:
"Responsibility makes me nervous."
"They insisted that all employees get to work by 8:45 every morning. Couldn't work under those conditions."
REASONS FOR LEAVING MY LAST JOB:
"Was met with a string of broken promises and lies, as well as cockroaches."
"I was working for my mom until she decided to move."
"The company made me a scapegoat - just like my three previous employers."
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
"While I am open to the initial nature of an assignment, I am decidedly disposed that it be so oriented as to at least partially incorporate the experience enjoyed heretofore and that it be configured so as to ultimately lead to the application of more rarefied facets of financial management as the major sphere of responsibility."
"I was proud to win the Gregg Typting Award."
SPECIAL REQUESTS & JOB OBJECTIVES:
"Please call me after 5:30 because I am self-employed and my employer does not know I am looking for another job."
"My goal is to be a meteorologist. But since I have no training in meteorology, I suppose I should try stock brokerage."
"I procrastinate - especially when the task is unpleasant."
PHYSICAL DISABILITIES:
"Minor allergies to house cats and Mongolian sheep."
PERSONAL INTERESTS:
"Donating blood. 14 gallons so far."
SMALL TYPOS THAT CAN CHANGE THE MEANING:
"Education: College, August 1880-May 1984."
"Work Experience: Dealing with customers' conflicts that arouse."
"Develop and recommend an annual operating expense fudget."
"I'm a rabid typist."
"Instrumental in ruining entire operation for a Midwest chain operation."

Have a wonderful Hump-Day!

329 – March Madness and 30 Days

The basketball games on Friday were outstanding, with some major upsets happening! Luckily, neither UCONN team played Friday and both of them are still alive in their respective tournaments. The men play again tonight, the women tomorrow night.

30 Days till vacation… or 4 weeks from this Wednesday at 3:30pm, I’m on vacation! We’ll be leaving early Thursday morning for San Diego where we’ll spend the day before the cruise. We signed up for our first Tequila Factory tour already! *S*

The weekend was busy, running errands on Saturday, then on Sunday, going to our wine club’s Wine Dinner. We were at a new place this year, one that I suggested over 2 years ago, and believe me when I say they hit a home run on this dinner. Everyone was completely blown away. I’ll post the menu tomorrow and you’ll see what I mean.

The weekend was also gorgeous as to weather.. up in the low 70’s Saturday, and 65 and sunny Sunday. This week, it’ll go back to near 50’s with some rain in the first couple of days.

On to something funny:

Funny Quotes:

Ted WIlliams:
Ted Williams had a reputation for having a disagreeable personality. Once when he was checking into a hotel under the false name of "G.C. Luther" the clerk asked him if he was really Ted Williams. Williams denied it and they went on to have a pleasant conversation about fishing. The clerk finally remarked, "I thought you really were Ted. But I can see you're not. You've got a much nicer disposition."

Ted Williams was an avid fisherman and was very knowledgable on the subject. He once told a Boston sportswriter that there was noone who knew more about fishing than he did. The writer replied, "Sure there is. God, who made the fish." "Yeah, all right," conceded Williams. "But you had to go pretty far back."

Mark Twain:
Once a notoriously tough businessman told Mark Twain, "Before I die I mean to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I will climb Mount Sinai and read the Ten Commandments aloud at the top." Disgusted, Twain replied, "I have a better idea. You could stay at home in Boston and keep them."

Abraham Lincoln:
Government Printer Defrees, when one of the President's messages was being printed, was a good deal disturbed by the use of the term "sugar- coated," and finally went to Mr. Lincoln about it.
Their relations to each other being of the most intimate character, he told the President frankly that he ought to remember that a message to Congress was a different affair from a speech at a mass meeting in Illinois; that the messages became a part of history, and should be written accordingly.
"What is the matter now?" inquired the President.
"Why," said Defrees, "you have used an undignified expression in the message"; and, reading the paragraph aloud, he added, "I would alter the structure of that, if I were you."
"Defrees," replied the President, "that word expresses exactly my idea, and I am not going to change it. The time will never come in this country when people won't know exactly what 'sugar-coated' means."

Have a wonderful day all…!

328 – Friday @ Last!

This is about the fifth year in a row that a few of us take a half day off, and go get some beer, wings and watch NCAA Basketball! It’s always a great time.. though it’d be a lot better if the UCONN Men were playing in this tournament. Either way, it’ll be fun and wonderful company.

I read this morning that Fess Parker passed away. I remember him as Daniel Boone, and Davey Crockett, as well as other things he did. He was one of Hollywood’s all time gentlemen, married for 50 years!

We’re down to 33 days till vacation.. and with the weather in the next two days in the 70’s, I can feel Spring here! I’m very tempted to put the Vette back on the insurance to take a ride tomorrow… but I think I may wait as next week it’s going to be in the low 50’s again.

Sunday is our wine club’s big Wine Dinner, a very fancy schmancy affair with incredible food, and fantastic wine. The downside is I have to wear a suit (those that know me, know I hate wearing a suit!). I’ll try to post the menu on Monday.

On to something funny:

The Service

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church.

It was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it.

The seven-year-old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the boy, and said quietly, "Good morning, Alex."

"Good morning," replied the young man, still focused on the plaque.

"What is this?" Alex asked.

"Well, son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service."

Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque.

Little Alex's voice was trembling and barely audible when he asked, "Which service, the 9:45 or the 11:15?"

Computer Users

Young Susie was having trouble with her computer so she called Wes, the computer guy, over to her desk. Wes clicked a couple buttons and solved the problem.
As he was walking away Susie called after him, "So, what was wrong?" And he replied, "It was an 'ID ten T' error." A puzzled expression ran riot over Susie's face. " 'An ID ten T' error? What's that, in case I need to fix it again?" He gave her a grin. "Haven't you ever seen an 'ID ten T' error before?" Susie replied, "No." "Write it down," he said, "and I think you'll figure it out."

327 – Happy St. Patricks Day!

st_patricks_hat

So, how many of you are wearing Green today?? I am! I love St. Patricks Day… beer,  corned beef and cabbage dinner… mmmmm! I feel like I was Irish in another life!
Having been to Ireland, I know what a happy, wonderful people they are.

I was reading an article online yesterday, and I was stunned to see a list of famous bands who are NOT in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! Check out this list:

KISS, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Chicago, Hall and Oates, Rush, Alice Cooper, The Moody Blues, E.L.O., Cheap Trick, Bad Company, Peter Frampton, Heart, T-Rex, Bon Jovi, Journey, Foreigner, Public Enemy, Red Hot Chili Peppers (this was their first year of eligibility)

I’m astounded that some of these (especially Chicago) aren’t in there.

Looks like nobody even guessed at my little amusing thing on Monday.. hmm.

I’ll tell ya, I’ve had a hard time with this season’s time change.. I’ve been very sluggish in the mornings since Sunday. It’s better today.. but it’s taken longer to get used to it than in the past. Am I getting old? (don’t answer that)

Hello to my new blog reader Derek Haines from Switzerland! I met Derek on Twitter, and believe me, if I ever go back to Switzerland and meet Derek, we’re definitely going to be trouble! *LOL*

I found an excellent article on CNN.com about Are classic cars dead as history repeats itself? Click on the picture of the Purple Hemi Cuda halfway down the page for a slideshow of some outstanding cars!

Have I mentioned… I may be selling my Corvette? More to come later on this.

On to something funny for my bud Bubba:

You know you're in a small town when ...
... You dial a wrong number and talk for 15 minutes anyway.
... You are run off Main Street by a combine.
... You can't walk for exercise every car that passes offers you a ride.
... You don't use your turn signal because everyone knows where you are going.
... You get married and the local newspaper devotes a quarter page to the story.
... You drive into a ditch five miles out of town and the word gets back to town before you do.
... The biggest business in town sells farm machinery.
... You write a check on the wrong bank and it covers you anyway.
... The pickups on Main Street outnumber the cars 3 to 1.
... You miss a Sunday at church and receive getwell cards.
... Someone asks you how you are, and actually wants to know.

Have a great St. Patricks Hump-Day!

326 – 37 Days till Vacation!

Almost a month away.. it’s coming fast, but I hope when it gets here, it goes by slowly when it finally gets here.

Well, my favorite time of year has arrived… NCAA Basketball Tournament time. Even though my UCONN Huskies are relegated to the lowly NIT (National Invitational Tournament), I take pleasure in knowing that the North Carolina Tar Heels are there too, last years national champions. Unlike the NCAA Tournament, there are only 32 teams in the NIT. It should be fun no matter where they play.
I’ll be taking  a half day off Friday just to watch basketball as I do every year (from a sports bar with great wings and friends).

From one of my lesser known domains, pcgeekweb.com:
Beware the Ides of March

Now used as a metaphor for impending doom, the "Ides of March" was originally simply a name for March 15th. In the ancient Roman calendar, the term "ides" referred to the 15th day of the months of March, May, July, and October and the 13th of all other months. The Ides of March was a festive day dedicated to the god of Mars and often marked with a military parade. However, when Julius Caesar was assassinated on that day in 44 BCE, the phrase took on an entirely new meaning. Who killed Caesar?

To tell you the truth, I never knew what it meant till now.. *chuckling*

On to something amusing:

What does this stand for?
111111
TIME

"A lady picked up several items at a discount store. When she finally got up to the checker, she learned that one of her items had no price tag. Imagine her embarrassment when the checker got on the intercom and boomed out for the entire store to hear, ‘PRICE CHECK ON LANE THIRTEEN, TAMPAX, SUPER SIZE." That was bad enough, but somebody at the rear of the store apparently misunderstood the word 'Tampax' for ‘THUMBTACKS.’ In a businesslike tone, a voice boomed back over the intercom: ‘DO YOU WANT THE KIND YOU PUSH IN WITH YOUR THUMB OR THE KIND YOU POUND IN WITH A HAMMER?’

and…..

An introvert went to bar and spots a pretty looking woman sitting on the stool. He mustered all his courage for long time, then timidly approached and asked her, "Ma’ am, would be OK if sit here and talk with you?" She was alert, suspecting this man, and responds by yelling, "No, I won't sleep with you tonight!" Customers in the bar started staring at them. The embarrassed guy quickly returns to his table dejected and ashamed. The young woman waits a little and then goes to the guy to apologize. With a smile on her face she says, "I am sorry if I embarrassed you. You see, I am a college student in psychiatry and I am putting together a thesis as to how people react to embarrassing moments." The cunning guy now yells loudly, "What do you mean by $500?"

Have a wonderful Monday all…!

325 – Band of Brothers

The most touching TV show (or movie) I’ve ever seen is “Band of Brothers”, made by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. Taken from a book by Stephen Ambrose, it tells the story of "Easy Company”, the first paratrooper company ever, and their tales in World War II. It was a 10 part (10 hour) miniseries by HBO, and it brought tears to my eyes in how it was written. Interspersed in the beginning and end of each episode, were the real soldiers of Easy Company, telling their story against a completely black backdrop. Emotions were still there as many tears were shed for the friends and family of these courageous men that never made it back. When this gem came out on DVD, I immediately bought it for myself, and later a copy for my dad, who loved it as much as I did. The series ended with the surrender of the German army, and the celebrations in Europe. One of the last scenes of the movie was when some of the soldiers find they had enough points to go home, while others were being sent to the Pacific theater. In one of the last words of one of the original Easy Company, a man says “My grandson asked me if I was a hero in the war.. (tears welling up in his eyes) and I told him No, the real heroes are still over there” meaning the ones in the graves in Normandy, the Ardennes forest in Belgium, and the beaches of Western Europe with names like Utah, and Sword.

If you’ve never seen this, please.. if you ever do anything I ask, rent this and watch it. You’ll be breathless at how well it’s done.

This weekend, HBO, Spielberg and Hanks continue the saga with “The Pacific”, a continuation of Band of Brothers, telling of the story in the Pacific theater.

You can bet I’ll be watching, saving on my DVR and eventually buying this one too.

No funny today.. I’ll just say have a wonderful weekend all.

324 – March Madness Redux

A Tale of Two Teams:

The UCONN Women, still perfect for the last 72 games (an NCAA Record), captured the Big East Championship yesterday with an easy game against the #2 ranked team, the West Virginia Mountaineers. It wasn’t an easy game until about 12 minutes from the end, when UCONN went on a run to put it away. There was never any doubt that they would win the tournament (leading up to the NCAA Tournament coming next week), and we’re proud to have our women be perfect!

The UCONN Men, on the other hand, lost their first round game to St. Johns. A team they’ve beaten before this season. A team NOBODY thought could beat UCONN. Not only did they beat UCONN, they embarrassed them with UCONN losing it’s 4th in a row. Most likely, there will be no post-season play for the men. This year, they’ve played with no enthusiasm, no fire, no determination. They looked like losers.

Either way, I have a team to root for, and a team I hope will be better next year, and… March Madness Has Begun!

On to something funny:

There was this car that was driving very slowly down the highway. A State Trooper pulls it over. "What have I done wrong, officer?" the driver asks.
"You are going 26mph on a major highway. There is a law against that," the officer says to the driver. "You must go at least 50mph."
"But when I turned on the highway, the sign said 26!" the driver replies.
"HA HA HA!" The officer laughs out loud. "That is because this is Interstate 26! The 26 isn't the speed limit!"
The driver leans back in her car seat and the cop sees another woman sitting beside her. She looked as pale as a ghost.
"What happened to her?" the officer asks.
"I don't know, but she has been that way ever since we got off of interstate 160."

A man in a Jaguar passed a mini that had broken down by the side of the road. Being a kindly driver, he stopped and fixed a tow-rope to it and began towing it to the nearest garage.
After 10 minutes of towing, a Porsche passed them at high speed. The Jaguar driver was not going to be outdone by a Porsche, so, forgetting that he had a mini in tow, slammed his foot down and the Jaguar and Porsche indulged in a high-speed race down the road, the Skoda and it's occupant trailing wildly about at the end of the rope frantically trying to attract their attention and failing.
A Police car saw them and gave chase. The Police driver radioed back to Headquarters "Sarge, you'll never believe this, I've just seen a Porsche and a Jaguar neck and neck doing 150 mph - and a bloke in a mini flashing his lights, blowing his horn and trying to overtake them!"

Have a wonderful Hump-Day!

323 – Freaky Nice Weather

This weekend the weather was u near 60! Weird when you think a week before we had just had around a foot of snow on the ground. Now, the grass is bare but for the places the plow made piles.

I finally took some pictures of our new Patio Doors, see what you think (keep in mind the room around them needs to be painted now!

IMG_1604

To the right is the door in our kitchen to one side of our deck. (click on a picture to ‘embiggen’)

We have a very large deck across the back of the house (you might be able to see the gas grill out the right side window in that door). To the left of this picture, is our sunk-in family room where the next picture was taken.

IMG_1606

That’s the big door! *LOL* Only the center section opens.. but it faces South East and lets in a lot of light. My chair is there to the left and our big screen TV is off to the right off camera.

Well, I just figured you’d like to see them.. *S*

On Saturday, I went to take a test drive in  a brand new 2010 Corvette. I can only say “Holy Fracking Cow!” Not that I’m going to buy a brand new Corvette, but I am looking to upgrade mine to maybe a 2008 model year (the C6 Generation vs the C5 that I have now). Basically, when the Corvettes go through a major change, they change generation numbers. Examples, the C1’s were from 1953 through 1962, the C2’s were 1963 through 1967. At the end of of those model years (‘62 and ‘67), the body style and overall car changed significantly. Anyways, I’m very picky about colors and options.. so I haven’t found what I’m looking for yet.

On to something funny:

The Old Man

A old man was sitting in the front row at a town meeting, heckling the mayor as he delivered a long speech. Finally the mayor could stand it no longer, so he pointed to the heckler and said, "will that gentleman please stand up and tell the audience what he has ever done for the good of the city."
"Well Mr. Mayor," the man said in a firm voice. "I voted against you in the last election."

The Police

A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street. "But officer," the man began, "I can explain."
"Just be quiet," snapped the officer. "I'm going to let you cool your heels in jail until the chief gets back."
"But, officer, I just wanted to say,..."
"And I said to keep quiet! You're going to jail!"
A few hours later the officer looked in on his prisoner and said, "Lucky for you that the chief's at his daughter's wedding. He'll be in a good mood when he gets back."
"Don't count on it," answered the fellow in the cell. "I'm the groom."

Have a great Monday all…!

322 – 47 More Days Till vacation!

Yep, the days are going fast now… and it’s time to start looking at shore excursions in the ports. Or, we could just walk around and explore on our own!

Hey Mark, did you check out the link here from Wednesday’s post?

No big plans for the weekend.. may go to the shooting range with my daughter, and maybe tomorrow go down and start up the Vette seeing as it’s going to be around 52 degrees out! Come on Spring!

Just found out recently that Comcast, my cable TV provider will offer the ability to set my DVR up from my PC anywhere! Should be available this month.. another thing that’ll be real cool to have.

A friend of mine, Paul from Rockford IL, sent me this quote from Theodore Roosevelt from 1907 about immigrants:

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good
faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an
exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any
such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the
person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There
can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something
else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American
flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language..
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American
people.'
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Wow… powerful words and so very true!

On to something funny:

Common wedding questions and answers
Q: Is it all right to bring a date to the wedding?
A: Not if you are the groom.
Q: How many showers is the bride supposed to have?
A: At least one within a week of the wedding.
Q: What music is recommended for the wedding ceremony?
A: Anything except "Tied to the Whipping Post".

A man is almost about to die

As he lay on his deathbed, the man confided to his wife, "I cannot die without telling you the truth. I cheated on you throughout our whole marriage. All those nights when I told you I was working late, I was with other women. And not just one woman either, but I've slept with dozens of them."
His wife looked at him calmly and said, "Why do you think I gave you the poison?"

May I borrow your dog for a few days?

It's for my mother-in-law," explained the mourner at the funeral procession. Tightening the leash, he gestured down at the dog and said, "My Doberman here killed her."
"Gee...That's terrible," commiserated the spectator. "But... Hmmmm... Is there anyway you might lend me your dog for a day or so?"
The bereaved son-in-law pointed his thumb over his shoulder and answered, "Get in line."

Have a wonderful weekend all…!

321 – Hump Day Snow

Yep, it’s snowing again, but the good news is, it’s been so warm that it’s not sticking today, and this weekend is supposed to be in the high 40’s. Monday and Tuesday here, it actually got up to 50! Spring is coming people… I can feel it. I can also see it in the mornings getting lighter when I go into work.

Our new patio doors are in the process of being stained, so when they’re done, I’ll post some pictures of them here. They look great and can’t wait to show them off.

Hey Mark, did you ever wonder how big a Star Wars Star Destroyer was, in relation to the USS Enterprise? or the HALO Mothership next to the Cloverfield Monster?
Well wonder no more thanks to this website!

I find it sad that there’s few if any good “Sci-Fi” shows on network TV. There’s a good chance that “Flash Forward” may be cancelled after it’s next run, and I’ve liked that show since it’s start. I used to like Warehouse 13 (cancelled), and Defying Gravity (cancelled). Now, I watch Flash Forward, Fringe, (Caprica,  Eureka, and Sanctuary though they’re on SyFy). Thank goodness for the old staples like Dr. Who, that seem to live on forever!

On to something funny…:

American in Paris

Harvey, an elderly American absentmindedly arrived at French immigration at Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris and fumbled for his passport.

'You have been to France before Monsieur?' the official asked in an aggressive tone.

Harvey, smiled and admitted that he had been to France before.

'In that case you should know enough to have your passport ready for inspection,' barked the bad-tempered officer.

Harvey gently informed the man that the last time he came to France he did not have to show his passport or any other documents.

'Pas possible, old man. You Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in 'la belle France.'

Harvey gave the Frenchman a long hard look. 'I assure you, young man, that when I came ashore on Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day

in 1944, there was no damned Frenchman on the beach asking for passports.'

320 – Just Another Monday…

This past weekend just seemed to be way too short.

Friday night, my friend Dave and I went out to dinner, and when he stopped by my house to pick me up, brought me a nice bottle of Appelton Rum from Jamaica! We had dinner at a local Peruvian restaurant with the worst name ever “Latino Restaurant”, but we know the food there is outstanding.

Saturday, we had our taxes done in the morning and went out to dinner with our friends Ray and Debbie (he recently celebrated a 60th birthday).

Sunday was the normal ritual of visiting Mom, and doing some things at home.. then watching my UCONN Men lose to Louisville by 2 points. *frown* I doubt they’ll make the NCAA Tournament this year.

And now.. for something funny (and true!)":

How to use the microwave oven... on a cruise ship

While on a luxury cruise, the receptionist received a call from a distressed passenger. "I wish to inform you that there is a faulty electrical appliance in my suite. Could you please send someone over to have it repaired immediately?? asked a lady passenger, clearly upset.

"Certainly, I shall arrange for someone to look into the matter immediately. Which electrical appliance would that be?? asked the concierge.

"It’s the microwave. I’ve been trying to warm up some supper for myself but the microwave wouldn’t start, replied the passenger.

"The microwave, Madam?? repeated the bewildered receptionist. "Yes, the microwave. You know, the heating device that is installed in the wardrobe,? replied the passenger sarcastically. "I’ve been trying for the past hour but my supper is still cold.?

Upon arriving at the suite, the receptionist found the lady passenger standing in front of the wardrobe, pressing vigorously at the control panel of the safe deposit box installed in the wardrobe. "Let me show you how what I have been trying. I key in the number of minutes here, but I don’t really know which one is the start button...?

Clever business at a young age

A policeman had a perfect hiding place to screen speeding drivers. But one day, everyone was under the speed limit, the officer investigated : a 9 year old boy was standing on the side of the road with a huge hand-painted sign which said "SPEED CAMERA AHEAD."

A little more investigative work led the officer to the boy's partner in crime, another boy about 200 meters beyond the speed camera with a sign reading "TIPS" & a bucket at his feet full of coins.

Have a wonderful Monday all!
