275 – Time Flies…

Wow, this week has just flown by!  It seems something new has come along every day to keep me busy.

Well, I have another weekend coming up with no big plans, so another relaxing time should be had!

The only thing I want to do this weekend, is watch the UCONN Football game Saturday at noon.

Other than that, someone sent me this picture below, and I loved it!

I don’t know if I mentioned it, but the police here have arrested someone for the murder of the UCONN Football player a few weeks ago.

Has the H1N1 flu affected where you are yet? We have schools/districts all over the state closing because so many students are out sick. We’ve also had our third death from this flu but again, the person had an underlying illness.

Well, as it seems like Mark is the only one reading lately, I’ll say have a wonderful weekend, and see you Monday!

273 – Weekend Update

It was a great weekend… Friday night, I went out for dinner with a friend of mine from work, and we had a great time!

Saturday, I had to do some work in my garage, then watched the UCONN football game on TV (they played West Virginia) and the West Virginia team, and fans were the classiest people on earth, in helping honor #6, Jasper Howard, the UCONN Football player that was stabbed to death last weekend. It was beautiful to see everyone come together to honor someone not on their team, and not from their school.

Saturday night, we went out to dinner with our friends Ray and Debbie, and it was a nice, relaxing meal.

Sunday, my daughter and I did our usual go to see my mom, then came back home. She and my wife then went to do some shopping, while I took the Vette out (it was nice and sunny out yet cool), to the last car show of the season.

Other than that, not much else to report…. maybe I lead a dull life.. *chuckling*

And now, for one of my favorite funny stories:

Dear Sir,

I am writing in response to your request for additional information. In block number 3 of the accident reporting form, I put "trying to do the job alone" as the cause of my accident. You said in your letter that I should explain more fully, and I trust that the following details will be sufficient:

I am a bricklayer by trade. On the day of the accident, I was working alone on the roof of a new six story building. When I completed my work, I discovered that I had about 500 pounds of brick left over. Rather than carry the bricks down by hand, I decided to lower them in a barrel by using a pulley, which, fortunately, was attached to the side of the building at the sixth floor.

Securing the rope at ground level, I went up to the roof, swung the barrel out and loaded the brick into it. Then I went back to the ground and untied the rope, holding it tight to insure a slow descent of the 500 pounds of bricks. You will note, in block number 11 of the accident reporting form, that I weigh 135 pounds.

Due to my surprise of being jerked off the ground so suddenly, I lost my presence of mind and forgot to let go of the rope. Needless to say, I proceeded at a rather rapid rate up the side of the building.

In the vicinity of the third floor, I met the barrel coming down. This explains the fractured skull and broken collarbone. Slowed only slightly, I continued my rapid ascent, not stopping until the fingers of my right hand were two knuckles deep into the pulley. Fortunately, by this time, I had regained my presence of mind and was able to hold tightly to the rope in spite of my pain.

At approximately the same time, however, the barrel of bricks hit the ground, and the bottom broke out of the barrel. Devoid of the weight of the bricks, the barrel now weighed approximately fifty pounds.

I refer you again to my weight in the accident reporting form, block number 11.
As you might imagine, I began a rapid descent down the side of the building. In the vicinity of the third floor, I met the barrel coming up. This accounted for the two fractured ankles and the lacerations on my legs and lower body.

The encounter with the barrel slowed me enough to lessen my injuries when I fell onto the pile of bricks, and fortunately, only three vertebrae were cracked. I am sorry to report, however, that as I lay there on the bricks in pain, unable to stand, and watching the empty barrel six stories above me...I again lost my presence of mind...and let go of the rope!

Have a wonderful Monday all!

272 – Windows 7 Has Arrived!

I thought the Windows 7 Launch show in NYC yesterday was fantastic (I saw it online in a video). They brought out Kylie, the little girl in the “I”m a PC” ad that makes a small movie out of the pictures of her fish, then emails it to her family.

She then introduced Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft who then gave her a pink netbook!

Well, I did my own playing around last night of the Windows Live Movie Maker, and Here's a link to what I created in about 15 minutes (guess I'm not as smart as Kylie!)

It really is simple, I just added music and captions to every picture. Let me know what you think! The video may not be up there forever.. so if you wait to see it too long, it may not be there!

BTW, they’re just a bunch of pictures I had resized and threw together.

This will be the first weekend in a long time with nothing specific planned! Rest @ last! There’s one of the last Car Shows of the season on Sunday, and if the weather cooperates, I may go. Other than that, the Vette’s almost ready to be put away for the season *sad sigh*.

And with that, something funny:

Embarrassing Moments

"A lady picked up several items at a discount store. When she finally got up to the checker, she learned that one of her items had no price tag. Imagine her embarrassment when the checker got on the intercom and boomed out for the entire store to hear, ‘PRICE CHECK ON LANE THIRTEEN, TAMPAX, SUPER SIZE." That was bad enough, but somebody at the rear of the store apparently misunderstood the word 'Tampax' for ‘THUMBTACKS.’ In a businesslike tone, a voice boomed back over the intercom: ‘DO YOU WANT THE KIND YOU PUSH IN WITH YOUR THUMB OR THE KIND YOU POUND IN WITH A HAMMER?’

An introvert went to bar and spots a pretty looking woman sitting on the stool. He mustered all his courage for long time, then timidly approached and asked her, "Ma’ am, would be OK if sit here and talk with you?" She was alert, suspecting this man, and responds by yelling, "No, I won't sleep with you tonight!" Customers in the bar started staring at them. The embarrassed guy quickly returns to his table dejected and ashamed. The young woman waits a little and then goes to the guy to apologize. With a smile on her face she says, "I am sorry if I embarrassed you. You see, I am a college student in psychiatry and I am putting together a thesis as to how people react to embarrassing moments." The cunning guy now yells loudly, "What do you mean by $500?"

Have a wonderful weekend all!

271 – Wordful Wednesday

First of all, I’d like to thank Merle, for nominating me for an award for my blog! It’s the “One Lovely Blog Award”, though, as I mentioned to her in my replies yesterday (I hope she read it) that while I’m extremely flattered, I don’t write my blog for awards. Merle’s the sweetest lady on here, and for her to nominate my blog, makes me very happy! Thank you Merle!

On Monday, it was announced on the local news, that one of the UCONN Football players who was instrumental in the win we saw Saturday, was stabbed to death on campus after an altercation. What’s this world coming to when people have to resort to knives to settle an argument. The whole UCONN Campus is so very sad over this, as this young man came from one of the worst neighborhoods in Miami, and was doing real well. He was well loved on campus, and may have had a career in the pro’s ahead.

That’s it for now, 'I’m kind of in a hurry tonight… so I’ll say have a wonderful Wednesday all.

270 – Weekend Update

I went to a Tailgate Party and a Football game broke out!

Yep, me, my friend Dave and  brother went to the UCONN/Louisville football game on Saturday (UCONN won, 38-25). The tailgating is almost if not more fun than the game itself!

We arrived around 10am or so for a noon game, unpacked the truck and set up the tables, chairs, grille and cooler. The weather was cool, but sunny so it warmed you up as long as the sun was out which was most of the time. For food, we had homemade pulled pork sandwiches that I made, and Jamaican Jerk Chili (recipe available upon request) made by Dave. My brother brought the knives, f0rks, bowls, chips, and we all brought our own beer/soda. The food was outstanding, it was such a wonderful day… and with the UCONN win, that just made it complete.

After the game, we came home, and I fell asleep on my chair in the living room for about an hour before we had to leave to go to a party at Dave and his wife’s house right afterwards. We came home a bit early, as the wife and I both needed the rest.

Sunday, other than my daughter and I going to see my mom, it was an uneventful day (thank goodness!)

I”m wondering how long I should keep up this blog.. as it seems I only have two readers,Mark and Merle whom I appreciate a lot.

Oh well, have a wonderful Monday all…

269 – Snow in Mid October?

Sure enough, yesterday it was snowing, and quite hard here! Now the roads are still a bit too warm to coat, but my lawn was white by 5pm last night. It was downright saddening to see it, when right now all I’m looking for is some nice weather for the next few weeks before I put my Vette away for the season.

That, and tomorrow my friend Dave, my brother and I are supposed to be going to see a UCONN Football game. The bad news is, it’s supposed to rain. Maybe we’ll end up tailgating and watching the game at my house. When we buy football tickets months in advance, it’s always a gamble if the weather will cooperate.

Other than that, it’s been another incredibly busy week. Every night, there’s been something going on after dinner with meetings, work on other peoples computers.. etc. The first time I see it slowing down is maybe on Sunday.

I’m still playing around with Google Wave, and finding it interesting. It’s a great productivity tool, if it’s used between a bunch of people, but right now, until they release it completely, there are few if any people I know using it.

Well, I’ve said enough for now… on to something funny. Some of these you may have seen, others maybe not. They’re from my friend Mike H:

PONDERISMS

I used to eat a lot of natural foods untill I learned that most people die of natural causes.

Gardening Rule: When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable  plant.

The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement.

Never take life seriously Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Have you noticed since everyone has a phone camera these days no one talks about seeing  UFOs like they used to?

Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again

In the 60s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out?"

Who was the first person to say, "See that chicken there? I'm gonna eat the next thing that comes outta its butt".

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a song about him?

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet Soup?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him on a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle

Have a wonderful weekend all…!

267 – Catch the Google Wave

Through someone I know on Twitter, I got an invitation to get in on the beta of Google Wave.  You need an invitation to join, and so far I can’t figure out how to send out invitations (if I even can).

Here's a definition of what Google Wave is.

So far, it seems to be a communications tool for collaboration. I realize it’s still in beta, but it still needs some work.

More as I learn more about it.

Saturday, I’m going with my daughter, brother and sister in law to see Young Frankenstein at the Bushnell Theater in Hartford. It should be great, and I know my daughter’s looking forward to seeing it.

Sunday, hopefully if the weather’s nice, one of the last car shows is happening.

And now, for a funny:

Generous lawyer

A local United Way office realized that the organization had never received a donation from the town's most successful lawyer. The person in charge of contributions called him to persuade him to contribute.
"Our research shows that out of a yearly income of at least $500,000, you give not a penny to charity. Wouldn't you like to give back to the community in some way?"
The lawyer mulled this over for a moment and replied, "First, did your research also show that my mother is dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that are several times her annual income?"
Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbled, "Um ... no."
The lawyer interrupts, "or that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair?"
The stricken United Way rep began to stammer out an apology, but was interrupted again.
"or that my sister's husband died in a traffic accident," the lawyer's voice rising in indignation, "leaving her penniless with three children?!"
The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, said simply, "I had no idea..."
On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again, "So if I don't give any money to them, why should I give any to you?"

Have a great weekend all! ps, I have Monday off, so there may not be a blog post.

265 – Busy Weekend Over….

Well, our friends Ray and Debbie’s daughter’s wedding went off beautifully. It was a gorgeous wedding on the Mystic River in Mystic CT, and other than a few drops of rain, was just perfect. The reception was held at the same place, and the food was the best by far that I had ever had at a wedding. They did an impeccable job at planning the wedding.

Sunday, our car club held a show for the town’s Chrysanthemum Festival, and it was a wonderful day, with lots of great cars and good times.

Odd thing, I was walking back to our club truck after looking at a few cars, and somehow, I hurt the back of my right calf. It feels like a “charlie-horse” but it’s still sore hours later. Hopefully it’ll be better Monday morning.

Instead of a funny today, here’s an interesting link about The 10 Biggest Moments in Internet History. Enjoy.

Have a wonderful Monday all!

264 – More on the Cruise

Well, the good news is, I put my pics from the cruise up on photobucket. If you want to see them, go here:

Password is freedom

There’s some great pics there, of the Tequila bar I always go to, a new restaurant in Cozumel, and some pictures of the ship and Grand Cayman.

Other than that, you can check out my Cruise in Review blog for the other info on the trip.

This is going to be a very busy weekend, as we have to go to a wedding Saturday, then Sunday a big car show our club is doing for the city on Sunday where I’m doing the DJ work.

Next weekend, I’ll be going to a play with my daughter, brother and sister in law. The weekend after that, me, my brother and friend Dave are going to a UCONN Football game. Like I said, every weekend for the last 4 or more months has been full.
