233 - Where Has the Sun Gone?
In the last 30 days, we've had around 24 days of rain. Seriously, I'm ready to build an ark! Animals are marching past my window in pairs. How big IS a cubit again?
Hey Curt, do you still read here? Bubba?
Mike H, are we doing Abbott's soon? Lobster is at an all time low price lately I hear.
I'm back down to one commenter again.. wondering if it's my content, or people just busy this time of year.
Did I mention it's raining. Again.
This weekend I'm supposed to go to a picnic, but that'll be rained out. Not sure what I'll be doing other than helping my son write a resume (his first).
Time for a few funnies:
An elderly man in Phoenix calls his son in New York and says, "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.
"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.
"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the old man says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her," and he hangs up.
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this."
She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at the old man, "You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.
The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife.
"Okay," he says, "They're coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own fares ...
Now what do we tell them for Christmas?
If I Ever Become an Evil Overlord:
- My legions of terror will have helmets with clear plexiglass visors, not face-concealing ones.
- My ventilation ducts will be too small to crawl through.
- My noble half-brother whose throne I usurped will be killed, not kept anonymously imprisoned in a forgotten cell of my dungeon.
- Shooting is not too good for my enemies.
- The artifact which is the source of my power will not be kept on the Mountain of Despair beyond the River of Fire guarded by the Dragons of Eternity. It will be in my safe-deposit box.
- I will not gloat over my enemies' predicament before killing them.
- When the rebel leader challenges me to fight one-on-one and asks, "Or are you afraid without your armies to back you up?" My reply will be, "No, just sensible."
- When I've captured my adversary and he says, "Look, before you kill me, will you at least tell me what this is all about?" I'll shoot him, and then say "No".
- After I kidnap the beautiful princess, we will be married immediately in a quiet civil ceremony, not a lavish spectacle in three weeks time during which the final phase of my plan will be carried out.
- I will not include a self-destruct mechanism unless absolutely necessary. If it is necessary, it will not be a large red button labelled "Danger: Do Not Push".
- I will not order my trusted lieutenant to kill the infant who is destined to overthrow me -- I'll do it myself.
- I will not interrogate my enemies in the inner sanctum -- a small hotel well outside my borders will work just as well.
- I will be secure in my superiority. Therefore, I will feel no need to prove it by leaving clues in the form of riddles or leaving my weaker enemies alive to show they pose no threat.
- I will not waste time making my enemy's death look like an accident: I'm not accountable to anyone and my other enemies wouldn't believe it.
- I will make it clear that I do know the meaning of the word "mercy"; I simply choose not show them any.
- One of my advisors will be an average five-year-old child. Any flaws in my plan that he is able to spot will be corrected before implementation.
- All slain enemies will be cremated, not left for dead at the bottom of the cliff. The announcement of their deaths, as well as any accompanying celebration, will be deferred until after the aforementioned disposal.
- My undercover agents will not have tattoos identifying them as members of my organization, nor will they be required to wear military boots or adhere to any other dress codes.
- The hero is not entitled to a last kiss, a last cigarette, or any other form of last request.
- I will never employ any device with a digital countdown. If I find that such a device is absolutely unavoidable, I will set it to activate when the counter reaches 117 and the hero is just putting his plan into operation.
- I will design all doomsday machines myself. If I must hire a mad scientist to assist me, I will make sure that he is sufficiently twisted to never regret his evil ways and seek to undo the damage he's caused.
- I will never utter the sentence "But before I kill you, there's just one thing I want to know."
- When I employ people as advisors, I will occasionally listen to their advice.
Have a great weekend!

Sounds like your blog is yet another victim of Facebook and other social networking sites. My comments section has almost completely dried up (besides you -- hmmm... notice a pattern here?), with a recent resurgence only because I was writing about a specific four-day weekend and the participants read the posts.
I've always been the type of guy who prefers to have a few very close friends instead of a thousand I barely know. Personal blogs fostered that kind of thing, but Facebook scoffs at it.
And I'm one of the few people on earth without a "Facebook" page...
Oh well...!
You're right though.. better 1 or 2 close friends than complete strangers.
yeh, still here... been in hospital with pneumonia...
When all else fails... talk about the weather and crack a joke or two.
Twitter is so fast and easy I think it takes a lot away from the blogs nowdays.
I gave up facebook I dont like the games and such there. SO twitter occupies my time.
I know summmertime is also a slow time normally. Everyones comments are down sometimes including mine. Hope your Father's Day weekend is good! : )
